Me: no honey. That's called a breast pump.

Conversations with T--Imaginary friends

At bedtime, saying prayers...
Me: "And for Rory's friends, Danny, Xander, Amelia, Zane, Tristan and Rowr."
T: He loves Rowr because he's a dinosaur that's his imaginary friend, and mine is...(loud pause)
Me: It's ok if you don't have an imaginary friend, you know, you're older.
T: No! I do! It's uhhhhh....BUFFALO Marshmallow man! He's cool! and when he cries, marshmallows come out of his eyes.

Conversations with T--Playdate snacks

T:  I'm just packing a few snacks for us in case we get hungry--cheese, hot dog, bacon...
Me: Why don't we just eat lunch first?

Conversations with T- More life goals

(whining)T: my teacher thinks when I grow up, I'm going to be a teacher.
Robert: she thinks you're going to be a teacher! What do you want to be?
T: I want to be a teacher AND batman.
Robert: I think that sounds like a GREAT idea, buddy!

Conversations with Ro and T--Sunday Morning Quandries

Conversations with Ro--
He insisted on getting "Jesus bread" during communion today. I asked him afterward, out of curiosity,
Me: Ro, do you know what Jesus bread is for? What it means?
Ro: love.

Conversations with T:
T: there's pigeons! Coo! Coo!
Me: where did you learn that, T?
T: nowhere. Sometimes I'm just smart.

For Preservation...

I realized the other day that these might all get lost in the shuffle, even though I was posting them to FB.  VoilĂ  --a blog to now capture the things my kids say that I want to remember--funny, thought provoking, amazing and otherwise ;)  I'll try to backdate quotes as I find them so that things go chronologically...until I get tired of that and just enter them on whatever day I manage to find and preserve them.

Rory: Less talk, more adventure...

Coming back from grocery shopping, I apparently woke Rory. He appeared, asking for water. We wandered into the kitchen, got water, and I went to take him back to bed when I noticed his shirt seemed to go past his shorts. I checked to make sure he was still wearing them and, lo and behold, he was diaper less too! I couldn't find where he discarded them but made sure he had a new one on before getting him back to bed.
Oh this kid and the parenting challenges of not laughing while correcting dangerous or nudist tendencies.

Conversations with T--Lessons in Safety

Conversations with T:
"Thanks mom for giving me a practice (fire drill) run when your pan caught on fire, and I could run out of the house!"
Tonight's dinner--carry out pizza (hey, it supports T's school anyway), and I'll probably have to replace my pan (which was 12 years old anyway), and everyone and our kitchen is fine...and hopefully T has learned not to discard the plastic lid from his yogurt so carelessly.

Conversations with Ro--warm, late summer days...

Conversations with Ro:
We're in the backyard this afternoon, enjoying the sunshine when he decides to walk gingerly over a rocky section
Me: It's probably time to put on some shoes if you're going to walk there, don't you think?
Ro: Got TOES, mama.
Me: You do make a convincing argument there.

Conversations with Ro and T--Need to work on our sneakiness

Conversations with T and Ro:
They're trying to plot something in the basement. We're not sure what, but do know they're not very good at it.
T: ( to Ro) you go distract papa.
Ro: papa! Distract distract distract!

Conversations with T--Social Justice Fail

(Attempted) serious Conversations with T:
We passed a guy who had been pulled over by cops and was in handcuffs. I used that opportunity to talk to him about how " peach" people ( what he calls his skin color) get in trouble with police less than " brown" people and how that's playing favorites and that's wrong.
Me:" what would you do if Kavi ( his buddy) was doing nothing wrong, and a police officer started yelling at him? How might you protect him?
T: I'd take off my shirt and take off my pants, and show (the cops) my nakkie!

Conversations with T-- Mid-January Curiosity

T to Rob: " you're in trouble. You're an old man!"
Wow. This kid hits below the belt!

T: Is Gwen with you?
Me: Yes
T: What's she doing?
Me: Eating. She just keeps eating and eating right now.
T: Oh, she loves eating. She loves milk! She loves milk like a dragon loves tacos!
Rob: ((Laughs)) Can you guess what book we just read?

We were watching a video about "when I grow up.." And jobs.
Me: what do you want to do when you grow up?
T: I wanna be Santa Claus and fly the reindeer! I'll have to learn how to control Rudolph though...
